So apparently this morning I didn't actually put the fresh coffee grounds into the coffee maker... In my defense I was pouring into a black travel mug, I thought the last little bit looked funny, but couldn't put my finger on it until I poured the sugar in and could still see it sinking all the way to the bottom.
Note to self: it works wayyyy more better when you put the freshly ground coffee *in* to the coffee maker.
Thank goodness for tea bags...
